Blurb

Set during New Zealand’s civil war — the 1981 Springbok Tour of New Zealand, Bend with the Wind explores the national conflict that was spurred by the rugby tour and the history of colonialism that was part of the impetus for that 'modern' conflict.

Sophie, a student protestor from Remuera, and Joe, a policeman hailing from Parihaka, find themselves on opposite sides as they are caught up in the confrontations of 1981. Their personal relationship is tested as they take their stands: Joe has to keep the peace; Sophie is committed to disrupting it.
